Cabarete Language Institute has a strong commitment with the community. We want to create more opportunities and help to develop their habilities to those people that never had the chance. The better a person speaks English, the greater possibilities he/she has.
HELP WITH ENGLISH
Our school is located in a magnificent town in the north coast of the Dominican Republic. We don’t know what winter is in this corner of the world, we take for granted that water from the ocean is warm and there is no need to use shoes, so locals, expats and turists enjoy its magic all year long.
Cabarete has an economy based on turism. Because of the weather conditions and its beauty, people come to kite, surf and relax on their holiday. Cabarete beach is full of life from early in the morning until late in the night, there is no time to get bored. Most of the businesses require not only Spanish speakers but fluent in English employees, that is why is so important for people living here to learn English.
CLI’S OPPORTUNITIES IN ENGLISH PROGRAM (OIE)
The program provides group English classes for low- to moderate-income individuals in the Cabarete area. Students benefit from: student-centered instruction; certified and dynamic teachers; interactive and practical classes that are based on oral communication; small class size (maximum 6 students) which provides more speaking time and individual attention; a relaxed and friendly learning environment;
and CLI’s signature Opportunity Hour.
Assistants may join through sponsorship. The investment for the programm is 50 USD per month per person. Everybody can be eligible, no matter the age.

SPONSORSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP FUND
According to 2011 World Bank Statistics, 40% of Dominicans live below the poverty line, most of whom are youth and women. In Cabarete’s tourism-based economy, English language skills are essential for individuals to get better jobs and create a better future for themselves and their families. CLI creates opportunities for youth and women from low-income families in Cabarete to learn English through our Opportunities Scholarship Fund. CLI’s Opportunities Scholarship Fund awards partial
and full need-based scholarships through a competitive process to dedicated and motivated individuals. Applicants must meet income eligibility requirements and are evaluated on their application materials and personal interview. The number of scholarships and award-level are dependent upon funding. The Opportunities Scholarship Fund is supported through contributions from individuals, including current and former CLI students, and the proceeds from the sale of Kiters for Communities bags at CLI.
Local businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals may sponsor any student in the Opportunities in English program. As a business or nonprofit leader, you may sponsor specific students who you refer to the program. As an individual, you may also sponsor a student who you refer to the program, or we can match you up with a student in need of funding. This is a great opportunity for organizations to build the language skills of their employees and for individuals to give back to the Cabarete community and make a difference in the life of a woman or young person.
