Is Your Child falling Behind Academically?

Most expat families moving to the Dominican Republic choose schools based on "Instagram-pretty" photos and progressive beach vibes. Yet, behind the scenes, children are falling behind in reading, writing, and focus due to high screen exposure and lack of structure.

Discover the exact "Screen Detox & Structured Learning" method that took student Mateo from iPad dependency to solving math by hand with pride in just 8 weeks.

Are Screens and "Alternative" Methods Hurting Your Child's Education?

Many families moving to Cabarete or Sosúa pay for schools that look stunning on Instagram, but fall behind academically. Progressive methods that use tablets for reading, apps for math, and laptops for writing often result in children who struggle to write a paragraph, cannot calculate without a device, and lose their ability to focus due to screen dependency.

At ESD European School, we do things differently. We focus on real tools, real structure, and academic excellence to help your child thrive in just one semester.

Mateo's Story: From iPad Dependency to Academic Pride

"Mateo's family moved to Cabarete for nature and peace. They enrolled him in a highly recommended 'innovative' beach school. But Mateo became tired, anxious, and used iPads all day. At home, he was glued to screens even more. When asked about progress, the school said 'he is happy, give it time.' But Mateo broke down reading and said 'I'm just dumb.' When Mateo came to ESD, we did a screen detox: no devices, real pencils, real books, and real teachers. Within 8 weeks, Mateo was waking up before his alarm, solving math problems by hand with pride, and laughing with friends at recess. We gave his family their happy child back."

This is for you if:

  • Your children are in private schools in the DR and you want strong academic levels.
  • You want your children to become genuinely bilingual or trilingual.
  • You want your children to break free from screen dependency and build real focus.

This is NOT for you if:

  • You only want your child to be "happy and relaxed" without any real academic goals.
  • Solid academic knowledge and character building are not priorities for you.
  • You are okay with your child using tablets and screens all day to "learn."

Why We Created ESD

When we moved here with our son, we couldn't find a school that met the high standards we wanted as parents and as experienced educators. The existing options were either extremely expensive schools teaching only in English, "bilingual" schools with only 2 hours of Spanish per week, or schools where learning happened on tablets with unqualified teachers.

So we built the school we wished existed. Co-founded by Kathy Reynaud (certified teacher accredited by the French Ministry of National Education) and Isaac Trujillo, ESD represents a screen-free, safe, and family-oriented environment with small groups (max 15 students per class) and European educational standards.

The 3 Pillars of the ESD Method

Pillar 1

No Screens: Real Learning

Screens shorten attention span, increase anxiety, and skip the cognitive process of writing by hand. We detox from screens completely during the school day.

Kids write with pencils, read real books, and calculate by hand, activating neural pathways that typing does not. Kids who couldn't write a paragraph are writing full pages in two languages within months.

Pillar 2

Real Structure & Languages

We teach in dual tracks (English-Spanish and English-French) using an accredited curriculum from Spain and the UK. No "Instagram aesthetics" over academics.

With small groups (max 15 students), we evaluate progress monthly and keep parents updated via Google Classroom. Expat kids integrate fully and speak both languages fluently in daily life.

Pillar 3

Real Challenges & Resilience

"Play-based learning" without goals teaches children to avoid frustration and quit. At ESD, we set age-appropriate challenges and teach children that effort brings success.

We personalize learning. If a student struggles, we bridge the gap. If a student excels, we provide advanced materials to keep them challenged and engaged.

"Leili came from Canada speaking only English. After just a few months at ESD, she was chatting in Spanish during recess and translating for her mother at restaurants."
